Tri2:  10B-01

le 4 mars:  Today we learned, in a very quick lesson, all about Van Gogh and I gave you the following notes on the board:
Photo
Remember that there won't be any Van Gogh on the test, but you might want to talk about him as a part of your project.  Also remember that your test is tomorrow!  Here are some hints to help you study:

-there will be pictures of things you'd find around an artist's studio, and you just need to write their French names underneath.  Don't forget the "le"/"un" (or la/une, or les/des).
-there will be translations from the powerpoint notes you took.  There is one sentence with two objects, and I ask you to translate it, then I give you another version where I've taken out the objects and replaced them with pronouns.  Easy peasy.
-when I ask you to translate information into French about Manet and Monet, I'm not asking you to do full sentences, but rather things like "flat and invisible brushstrokes" and "the effect of natural light on the subject".  I thought that might be a bit more fair.
-There's a boni!

We then talked about what I'm expecting from your projects:
Photo
Notice that I finished up the information during break; there was only a couple of additional points to make.  Plus, I added how to say that your painting is in a particular style (inside the "cloud"!).

Have fun and do good work when I'm away.  See you on Friday for your project presentation!  :)
le 1 mars:  Today we delved right into our work, finishing up Manet and going on to Monet:

Here's the last one that we didn't quite get to; please copy it out into your notes:

"The impressionists used a lot of paint, and they wanted to catch the light.  They didn't use rough sketches, and they used to paint outside.  They used clear and pure colours.  The colours were very important; the impressionists didn't use the colour black for shadows, they used dark purple."

Homework:  Make sure you have the above slide in your notes, with the translation.  As well, get started on your painting if you think you have enough information to do so.  If you wanted to do a painting in the style of Van Gogh, you can take a look at some of his paintings online and get started with his style of long, unbroken thick brushstrokes, and use of colour to depict his emotional state.  He also used as much black as he wanted.

Quiz: small, broken brushstrokes, unmixed, intense colours, the effect of natural light on the subject, rough sketches, utiliser (in all tenses, for "il" and "ils"), peindre (in all tenses, for "il" and "ils")  :)
le 27 février:  I took up the optional homework verbally, and let you know that you need to be able to answer questions like those for your test.  We then began our work on Édouard Manet by looking at slides of the art style that was popular when he was learning to paint:  realism.  We learned the following:

-there  can be nudity in realism paintings, as long as the nudity is used to depict Biblical or mythic situations and can be seen as a acknowledgement of God's gift of the human body to mankind;
-realist artists might improve upon how a subject looks, partially to show respect for God's creations, but also because if a rich man is paying to have a portrait done of his wife, the painter will get more money and other commissions if the wife has 3 chins instead of 5 and a slightly smaller wart on her cheek (you get the idea);
-brushstrokes are very flat and are invisible, because anything on the canvas that shows the artist's point of view, political viewpoints, emotional state, etc is NOT PERMITTED in realism;
-black is used in realist paintings.

We got a bit of vocabulary:
Photo
As well, just a reminder that "realism" in French is "le réalisme".

Homework:  fill out the top part of the sheet I gave you today, in which you give some information about realism (use the points written above, and the vocab in the picture above).

Quiz:  le réalisme, la nudité, le corps humaine, les coups de pinceau plats et invisibles, les histories Grèc, les scènes de Bible, le cadeau de Dieu, utiliser, peindre (both verbs in present, passé composé and impératif for "il")  :)
le 26 février:  Today we had our quiz:
Photo
We then took up the homework:

1.  The artist used to prefer oil paintings because he liked painting with dark colours.  L'artiste préférait les peintures à l'huile parce qu'il aimait des peintures avec les couleurs foncés.
2.  The painter doesn't like watercolour paintings because he doesn't like to use a paintbrush, a palette, a canvas, or an easel. Le peintre n'aime pas de peintures à aquarelle parce qu'il n'aime pas utilitser de pinceau, de palette, de toile, ou de chevalet.
3.  Was the painter painting at le Centre Pompidou?  Yes, he was painting there. Est-ce que le peintre peignait au Centre Pompidou?  Oui, il y peignait.
4.  We prefer blue paintings above all.  Nous préférons des peintures bleues par-dessous tout.
5.  The painter gave the paints to the artist at the Musée D'Orsay; he gave them to him there. Le peintre a donnée les peintures à l'artiste au Musée D'Orsay; il les lui y a donné.

OPTIONAL homework:  Répondez aux questions en français (some of the questions are just your opinions, some you should be able to figure out from your current knowledge, and some of them you'll make up an answer):

1.  Quel type de peinture est-ce que tu préfères, et pourquoi?
2.  Est-ce que le peintre travaille dans un atélier?
3.  Est-ce que les peintures de Manet accrochent (hanging) dans le Centre Pompidou?
4.  Est-ce que Manet aimait peindre avec un pinceau et une palette?
5.  Quel type de couleurs est-ce que tu préfères?

Quiz:  no quiz.
le 25 février:  Today we took up "Sheet #1" that you had done for today; please make sure that you have a correct copy of the answers, as they're prime material for the test and for your projects.  We then had some students present their conversations that they wrote on Friday; good job!  If you keep up with your work, you'll ace this unit!

Homework:  Translate the following:

1.  The artist used to prefer oil paintings because he liked painting with dark colours.
2.  The painter doesn't like watercolour paintings because he doesn't like to use a paintbrush, a palette, a canvas, or an easel.
3.  Was the painter painting at le Centre Pompidou?  Yes, he was painting there.
4.  We prefer blue paintings above all.
5.  The painter gave the paints to the artist at the Musée D'Orsay; he gave them to him there.

Quiz: les peintures à l'huile, les peintures à l'aquarelle, les couleurs vifs, les peintures pâles et claires, je préfère par-dessus tout...,
créer (
all conjugations in the present tense).  :)
le 21 février:  Today we had our quiz, then we practiced talking about being an artist using our vocabulary orally, including some of the information from "Les Métiers", which was fun.

No homework, no quiz.  :)
le 20 février:  Today we continued on with "Les Artistes" by looking at some vocabulary from our powerpoint slides, then doing an oral exercise to practice saying we're artists, where we work, what we do, and what materials we use:
We also learned the conjugations of the irregular verb "peindre" (to paint):
Photo
Photo
mework:  finish up the half-page worksheet that I gave you by talking all about the various aspects of you being an artist:

Bonjour, je m’appelle _______, et je suis artiste.... __________
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Quiz:  See "quiz" section of photograph above.  :)

le 19 février:  Today we had a couple of kids write their "Contes de fées" test, and a group presented their puppet show.  We began our new unit, "Les Artistes" by going over everything that's going to be on the unit:
Photo
Please notice that we have our test on March 5, work days on March 6 and 7, and our projects are due March 8 and 11.  There will be NO EXTENSIONS GIVEN as the trimester ends on March 11.  IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE AT SCHOOL FOR ONE OF THE DUE DATES, YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR WORK DONE BEFORE YOU LEAVE.  Sorry to yell, but it's important.

Also keep in mind that I'd love to have a movie night with you, to eat, have fun, and watch one of the Van Gogh movies.  We'll come up with a potential date in the next few days, if you're interested.

No homework, no quiz.  :)
le 13 février:  Test day!
le 12 février:  Today was project day; half the groups went.  What a great job you all did!  We then went over the test a little bit; you'll do fine if you can do the 14-line fairy tale I gave you the other day, and be able to rewrite the French sentences replacing the objects with object pronouns.  Here are our board notes:
Photo
Bon chance demain!  :)
le 11 février:  I gave you a sheet today to help you with your object pronouns (including in which order multiple object pronouns are placed), then gave you the rest of the block to work on your projects.  Really looking forward to seeing the puppet shows tomorrow!

Homework:  finish up and practice your projects
Quiz:  no quiz.  :)
le 8 février:  We did our fabulous flag today, which helps us learn the order of object pronouns in a sentence:
Photo
We did a couple of examples on the board to illustrate the following:

-when you want to replace a direct object, use a direct object pronoun.
-when you want to replace an indirect object (one that appears in the sentence right after the preposition à), use an indirect object pronoun.
-if you want to replace an indirect object, but the preposition following the verb isn't à (but is a different preposition, such as vers, pour, avec, chez, etc), you have to use the preposition and a stress pronoun.
-if you want to use more than one object pronoun in a sentence, you have to follow the order of the pronouns as outlined in the "flag" graphic in the picture above.  Luckily for us, the order in English seems to match up pretty well with the order in French.  Eg:  "I gave it to them there" is Je le les y ai donné.

Here's a picture of our examples:
Photo
Homework:  Just spend a few minutes with this material before class on Monday, just to make sure you understand it.

Quiz:  no quiz.  :)
le 7 février:  We did our quiz, then took up the homework from Tuesday, which some of you found completely confounding (not the homework, but the fact that we took it up a day late).

We then took a few verbs that we find annoying in the passé composé, and used them to learn two things:

-how to say the direct object pronouns le, la, les (it, them) and the indirect object pronouns lui, leur (to him/her, to them)
-where the object pronouns go in a passé composé sentence.

With the passé composé, the object pronoun goes in front of the helper (auxillary) verb.  Look at the following examples:

She saw the potion, she drank it.  Elle a vu le philtre, elle l'a bois.
He had a sword and a shield; he put them on the table.  Il avait un épée et  un écu; il les a mis sur la table.
She saw the prince; she said "hello" to him.  Elle a vu le prince; elle lui a dit "bonjour".

Homework:  Translate the following sentences, then remove the object (bolded) and replace it with an object pronoun.  You'll write two French sentences, therefore, per English sentence.

1.  The witch transformed the ogre into a toad.
2.  The Good Fairy cast a spell in the castle.
3.  The Three Little Pigs waited for the Big Bad Wolf.
4.  The giant prevented the spell.
5,  The hero lost the magic wand.
6.  The king wore the crown.
7.  The archer shot the arrow.
8.  The bat asked the knight, "how are you?"

No quiz.  :)
le 6 février:  After our quiz, we took up the questions at the bottom of our verb pages by writing them into our own personal fairy tales.  I then collected them to read out so that we could guess who wrote what, but time ran out on us.  :(

We learned (reviewed) some new stuff today as we were working on the fairy tales:

quand - when, while
puis - then
après ça - after that
d'abord - first
enfin - finally
ensuite - next
tout à coup - suddenly
aussi - also
un jour - one day
elle est tombée amoureuse avec le prince - she fell in love with the prince

I also taught you about the verb "transformer", and how it can be used:

Le sorcière a transformé le prince en crapaud - The witch transformed the prince into a toad.
Le prince était transformé en crapaud par la sorcière - The prince was transformed into a toad by the witch.

Homework:  make sure you've finished up the homework from yesterday, which we didn't take up today.

Quiz:  transformer (passé composé), transformé (as the adjective), en crapaud, en ogre, en dragon,  la sorcière, la Feé Carabosse, la Bonne Fée, la princesse, le fou, le chevalier, l'araignée.  Make sure you can say that the witch and the two fairies transformed people, as well as saying that the people were transformed by the witch and fairies (par la sorcière, for example).  :)
le 5 février:  After we did our quiz, we took up the rest of the translations and filled out the past participle list from our worksheets, and answered the English questions.  Class time ran out at this point, so we didn't get any further.

Homework:  Translate the following:

Once upon a time there was a king and a castle.  He lived there.  There was a forest; a bat lived there.  "The witch made a curse!" the king said to the spider.  "Oh no!  I spent an hour with the witch!" the spider replied to the king.  And they lived happily ever after.

Quiz:  perdre, obtenir, mettre, tirer, rester in passé composé for all conjugations, plus la baguette magique, l'épée, l'écu, la flèche, l'arc, le carquois, l'archer, le chevalier, La Fée Carabosse, la forêt.  :)
le 4 février:  No quiz today, so we started right in with our verb sheet:
Photo
We translated up to "parler", I believe.

Homework:  Translate the rest of the verbs (use a translator if you need to), and finish up the sheet below (except for the box at the bottom of the sheet).

Quiz:  le méchant, la fée, la sorcière, le crapaud, le chevalier, tenter, risquer, empêcher, agir, rester (all in passé composé for just il and elle).  :)
Photo
le 1 février:  After our quiz, we did a really fun drawing game to help us learn our vocabulary.  No homework, no quiz.  :)
le 31 janvier:  We started by finishing up (finally) our vocabulary from the chart, and I went over the stem-changing verb jeter (the t changes to a tt in the boot).  We also went over what the archer carries.

Homework:  no homework.
Quiz:  une malédiction, un sort, casser (il and elle only in passé composé), jeter (il and elle only in passé composé), faire (il and elle only in passé composé, une couronne, l'archer, le carquois, la flèche, l'arc, porter (in passé composé and imparfait, il and elle only).  :)
le 30 janvier:     We started with our quiz:

  1.  The witch went to the (underground) dungeon. La sorcière est allée au cachot.
  2. She went there. Elle y est allée.
  3. The Good Fairy lived in the drawbridge. La Bonne Fée habitait le pont-levi.
  4. She lived there.  Elle y habitait.
  5. The Bad Fairy was going to the forest.  La Fée Carabosse allait à la forêt.
  6. She was going there.  Elle y allait.
  7. She lived in the spiderweb.  Elle habitait la toile d’araignée.
  8. She lived there.  Elle y habitait.

We then did an exercise whereby we took up the homework by getting into groups, working together, and saying one line of the translation out loud for the class.

No homework, no quiz.
le 29 janvier:  We started with our quiz:
Photo

Then we took up the homework:

  1. Le chevalier est allé au château.
  2. Le chevalier y est allé.
  3. La reine est tombée (dans) à la forêt.
  4. La reine y est tombée.
  5. La sorcière arrivait à la toile d’araignée.
  6. La sorcière y arrivait.
  7. “Est-ce que le prince vient au donjon?” la princesse a demandé.
  8. “Est-ce qu’il y vient?” elle a demandé.
  9. L’archer est descendu au cachot.
  10. L’archer y  est descendu.

We started finishing up translating the vocabulary, but ran out of time.

Homework:  Translate the following:

"Once upon a time there was a king, a queen, a prince, and a princess who lived in a castle.  One day (un jour), the princess was walking in the forest, and she saw (elle a vu) a handsome prince; she saw him there.  They went to the castle, and the witch was arriving at the spider web!  "Is the prince going to the spider web?" asked the princess.  "No!" said the witch.  And they lived happily ever after.

Quiz:  la toile d'araignée, le donjon, le cachot, la sorcière, La Feé Carabosse, La Bonne Fée, le pont-levis (there's no "de"), la forêt, aller (in passé composé and imparfait for "elle"), habiter (in imparfait for "elle" and "elles").  :)

le 28 janvier:  I put our fairy tale locations back up on the board, and we learned how to replace them with "y", which means "there" in French:
Photo
I also put up the verbs you see here in the picture, as they work well with locations and "y".  You can see an example with the spider and her web up in the top right hand corner of the picture.

I then gave you a worksheet with eight or so sentences for you to translate, alternating between sentences with objects, and sentences in which the object had been replaced by a pronoun.

Homework:  finish up the worksheet, just the first set of questions.
Quiz:  See the photo below.
Photo
le 25 janvier:   We started off by doing our quiz:

  1. The knight wore armour. Le chevalier portait l’armure.
  2. The knight didn’t live in the castle.  Le chevalier n’habitait pas (dans le) (le) château.
  3. He carried a sword. (all the time)  Il portait un épée.
  4. He didn’t carry a shield. Il ne portait pas d’écu.
  5. He lived in the spiderweb.  Il habitait la toile d’araignée.
  6. He carried a lance. (all the time)  Il portait une lance.

...then we took up the homework:
Photo
I then gave you all of our locations that will be in the unit:
Photo
No homework, no quiz.  :)
le 24 janvier:  We had our quiz, then took up the homework by having 5 of you at a time come to the front of the room and read out your fairy tales, one line at a time.  We then started to put our locations into a category, and only got as far as:

la forêt - the forest
la cave - the cave
la toile d'araignee - the spider's web

We'll continue tomorrow.

Homework:  Translate the following sentences (and watch your tenses!):

1.  Where was the prince?  The prince lived in the forest.
2.  Where was the queen?  The queen lived in the castle.
3.  Where was the knight?  The knight lived in the cave.
4.  Where was the fool?  The fool lived in the spider web.

Quiz:  porter (in l'imparfait, and also in the negative), l'armure, l'épée, l'écu, la lance, habiter (in l'imparfait, and also in the negative), le château, le chevalier, la toile d'araignée..  You'll be putting these vocab words in to sentences such as:

-The knight didn't live in the spider web.
-The knight wore armour and carried a sword and a shield.
-The knight didn't carry a lance.

REMEMBER TO USE L'IMPARFAIT FOR HABITER AND PORTER IN THE QUIZ, AS WE'RE DESCRIBING GENERAL RATHER THAN SPECIFIC SITUATIONS IN THE PAST.  :)
le 23 janvier:  We continued with our fairy tale unit by going over some vocabulary on the sheets that I gave you, then we took up sheet #1, and did a bit from sheet #2.  We learned how to say "once upon a time there was" and "and they lived happily ever after", and made up a tiny fairy tale together.  Here's the board:
Photo
Homework:  Write a short fairy tale beginning with "once upon a time" and finishing up with "and they lived happily ever after", using all the vocab on the board as well as the knight vocab..  Remember to put it into l'imparfait.

Quiz:  le oir, la reine, le prince, la princesse, le fou, le chevalier, le château.  :)
le 22 janvier:  We started "Les contes de fées" today.  I first explained what our unit is all about, then described the project (puppet show!), and the due date:  February 12, and the test is February 13.  I put a little chart on the board for characters, places, and verbs.  We'll finish tomorrow.  :)
le 21 janvier:  Test day!  Tomorrow we start our new unit, "les contes de fées".  :)
le 17 janvier:  Today was our last day for doing our projects, yay!  Tomorrow is our targeted study day; it'll be super useful.

Homework:  keep studying!
Quiz:   no quiz.  :)
le 16 janvier:  We continued today with our projects, and those who are finished were asked to study for our test on Monday, using the study materials I have already given to you.  No homework, other than to study!
le 15 janvier:  We started our projects today; great job!  I also handed out some more test prep sheets, so now you have all the prep information that you need to study from.  Work on your projects tonight if you still need to present, and study for your test on Monday.  :)
le 14 janvier:  Today we had a practice day to work on our projects.  Some of us are doing our projects tomorrow, some on Wednesday, and some on Thursday; bon chance 133 tout le monde!
le 11 janvier:  We had the wonderful news today that we can move ahead with our plan for a French12A course in 2021 which concentrates on the history and culture of the Haida nation, and it culminates in a trip to Haida Gwaii.  I'll keep you in the loop as to how it progresses!

We then took up the "why I'm not in this profession anymore" worksheet, and I promised that I would put the answers on the webpage:  (I'll put them up at lunch).

Homework:  Keep working on your projects; perhaps be ready to practice them on Monday so that I can help you if you have any difficulty.  :)
le 10 janvier:  We had our quiz:
Photo
We then took up the "why I don't work at my job anymore" worksheet, and we decided who would be presenting their projects  on which day next week.

Homework:  Keep working on your projects.

Quiz:  No quiz.  :)
le 9 janvier:  Sorry for the delay in updating the webpage, I had unexpected things to do right from after school until now.  We first did the sheet where people explain why they don't have their jobs anymore; please make sure you've finished that for tomorrow so that we can take it up.  We then took up the "Bob est chômeur" translation
Photo
Homework:  after you finish making sure you have the "why I don't work at my old job anymore" done, please make sure that you feel very comfortable with the paragraph above, as it's going to be on the quiz tomorrow.

Quiz:  I'll be taking some random sentences from the paragraph above to put on your quiz.  There were so many of you who didn't do your homework for today, I'm worried that you won't do well on this part of the test, so make up the time that you didn't spend yesterday on this paragraph, and work on it tonight.  :)
le 8 janvier:  We had our quiz today; here are the answers:

  1. Le chômeur cherche une situation.
  2. Il regarde les petites annonces.
  3. Il fait une demande d’emploi.
  4. Il cherche une salaire et des congés.

I gave you a handout of the questions I wrote on the computer lab board yesterday, with a box of translation at the bottom of it.  We then talked extensively about your project:  what should be on the poster, your handouts, etc:
Photo
There wasn't much time for anything else, this being a short day.

Homework:  Finish up the entire box of translation about Bob le chômeur (the first part was yesterday's homework) from the sheet I gave you today.  If you didn't bring it home, here's the translation:

Quiz:

Instead of the quiz I promised, we're going to do an activity about why people got fired.  You're welcome.  :)

le 7 janvier:  Bienvenue!  I hope everyone had a wonderful break.  Today we went to the computer lab to choose our professions for the project and answer these questions:

After we took up the homework, we went over some numbers that we will need to talk about people's salaries and the percentages we'll be quoting.  We only got up to 10.  lol

For the quiz on Monday, please be ready to look at some printouts of the Job Futures Québec website and answer a few questions about the stats there.  :)
le 13 déc:  We had our quiz today, then we took a look at the Quebec Futures website and finished examining the French, and put together our final three questions for the project:
Photo
Homework:  I gave you a scavenger hunt of questions to find the answers to from looking at the Quebec Job Futures website.  Answer all the questions in full sentences, and I'll pick 2 of the correct sheets for a prize!  :)

le 12 déc:  Sorry I forgot to update the webpage yesterday!  Yikes!  Anyway, today we took up the savoir/connaître worksheet, then finished up looking at the Quebec Job Futures webpage in English, then looked at it in French.  I went over four of the 8-9 questions that I'm going to be asking you about your profession during your project:

1.  Quel pourcentage de dentistes au Québec est mâle (what percentage of dentists in Quebec are male)?
Quel pourcentage de dentistes au Québec est femelle (what percentage of dentists in Quebec are female)?

2.  Quel pourcentage de dentistes au Québec est entre (choose one of the ages groups)?  (What percentage of dentists in                 Quebec are between <age> and <age>)?

3.  Quel pourcentage de dentistes au Québec travaille en plein temps (what percentage of dentists in Quebec work full time)?
Quel pourcentage de dentistes au Québec travaille en tempspartiel (what percentage of dentists in Quebec work part time)?

4.  Quel est le revenue annuel d'un dentiste au Québec?  (What is the annual revenue of a dentist in Quebec)?
Quel est la salaire annuel d'un dentiste au Québec?  (What is the annual salary of a dentist in Quebec)?
Combien gagne un dentiste au Québec?  (What does a dentist in Quebec earn)?

We'll get to the other questions tomorrow.

You have a quiz tomorrow on the following material:  I'll write a sentence which is missing the proper version of the verb "to know".  It can either be connaître or savoir, and can be in the present or imparfait.  The verbs can be used to know a fact, to know how to do something, or to know a person, place, or thing.  Here's an example:

Je ____________________ Zimmerman (imparfait)      je connaissais Zimmerman.

Tu ________________ parler français (présent).  tu sais

Etc.  :)

le 10 déc:  Today we had our quiz, started a worksheet that uses connaître and savoir with the professions, did a small imparfait review, and learned the conjugations for savoir:

je sais           nous savons
tu sais           vous savez
il sait             ils savent
elle sait         elles savent

We started looking at the Job Futures Quebec website (emploi-avenir Québec).  We'll need this webpage for our project, quizzes, and test.  This webpage has two purposes:  to let job-seekers know some interesting information about jobs in Quebec, and also to give job-seekers a forum for looking for jobs.  We'll just use the first function.

If you want to look up a particular job, you can either click on the NOI database number, or you can use the "NOC Search Engine" hyperlink on the main page to go to a search bar, where you can type in the job.  That's as far as we got.

Homework:  study for your imparfait quiz tomorrow with the following verbs:  parler, combattre, guérir, distrubuer.  You only need to know the 8 imparfait conjugations, not the professions.  As well, finish up the connaître and savoir worksheet.  :)
le 7 déc:  Today we had a wonderful visitor in the classroom:  our superintendent of schools, Mme LaPierre.  She listened to us for a bit as we asked each other what we do for a living, and we answered what we used to be, what we used to do, our profession now, and what our profession entails.  You all did an excellent job.  I then gave you the following conjugations:

connaître - to know a person, place or thing

je connais                       nous connaissons
tu connais                       vous connaissez
il connaît                         ils connaissent
elle connaît                     elles connaissent

Eg:

Tu connais Zimm? - Do you know Zimm?
Zimm connaît la petite église à Usk. - Zimm knows the little church in Usk.
Mme GZ connaît la musique des Beatles. - Mme GZ knows the Beatles' music.

remplir - to fill (it's regular, just like choisir, guérir, and finir)

je remplis                     nous remplissons
tu remplis                     vous remplissez
il remplit                       ils remplissent
elle remplit                   elles remplissent

We didn't have time to look at the webpage, but we will on Monday.

We have a little quiz on Monday on the following jobs, which include what the jobs entail in présent and l'imparfait:

un avocat
un facteur
un opticien
un professeur
un pompier

:)

le 5 déc:  We took up the homework then played "Où est Twinkie?" with our new vocabulary:

Personne #2:  Je... (describe what's entailed in their job).

Do this for five of the ten professions that we've covered (see the photo of the board from yesterday's post).  :)

le 3 déc:  Bienvenue à la classe!  Today we started our new unit, "Les métiers" (jobs).  We went over the unit plan, then I handed our our "Les métiers" booklet.  Here are the professions in this unit:

I put the following ten professions on the board (the first ten from the list):

We talked about how you can use "un" with a profession if you're talking about seeing the person, etc, but if you're talking about being that profession, you can't use "un".  Eg:  "Je suis professeur".

Homework:  Look up at the picture above.  There are four questions; please write a question down and answer it, then proceed to question 2 (with answer), then question 3 (with answer), then question 4 (with answer).  You've have to do each question twice and two of the questions three times so that you create 10 question and answer sets, using each of the professions once.
