le 4 mars: We finished up our wine unit on Friday, so today we just went over what's on the test. You asked for some additional help on "si" clauses; here's our board notes:

Here are some more "si" clauses you can sink your teeth into:
She would go to the vineyard if she could.
If we were drinking Pinot Gris, we could eat red meat.
They would drink some Champagne if they stayed there.
If you can do those sentences, you'll be totally prepared for the test! ;)

Good luck on your test tomorrow, and don't stress about it. Here are some "cheat hints"... make sure you know:
-which countries produce the most wine;
-what fraction of the world's wine France produces;
-how many acres are put aside in France for wine production;
-the number of bottles that are produced in France each year, and how many of them are exported;
-the three categories of wine;
-which category is a) the most expensive, b) the most popular, and c) the cheapest;
-the three elements of terroir;
-two examples from each element;
-why terroir is important in wine production;
-how champagne is made, including what three wines are in la cuvée, what's in le tirage, the fact that there are two fermentation processes, how long the champagne is left in the cool cave, how often it's riddled, the fact that the neck of the bottle is plunged into freezing liquid to form the dépôt, the fact that the dégorgement removes the dépôt, and that after that, the liquor d'expedition is added. Piece of cake!
-know how to put verbs into the future tense, such as mettre, faire, boire, vouloir, venir, and devenir
-know how to put together the "si" sentences with verbs in the conditional such as aller, manger, boire, and imparfait verbs such as pouvoir, boire, and rester.
So easy! I know you've got this. Have a great week, work hard, and I'll see you Friday for your excellent wine projects. :)

le 1 mars: Today we finished up with le terroir:
We then worked on some "si" clauses: first to show the three different categories (categories 1 and 3 we'll do next trimester), then to show si clauses with the conditional and imparfait tenses:
We then did some examples of sentences that show some fairly likely scenarios (not really likely, but not impossible), such as "I would drink Pinot Gris if I liked it" or "I would go to the store if I could":
Homework: remember that you have a test and a project next week, so please do what you need to do on the weekend to prepare.
Quiz: no quiz.

le 28 février: Today we did our quiz:, then finished up our champagne section of the wine unit by taking up the homework. Here's the paragraph I would have written if I was a student:
We then talked about le terroir, and why it's an important element of grape growing, along with the methodology of wine making and the expertise of the vintner:
"The soil, the climate, and geography collaborate to produce the best grapes for the most delicious wines."
Here is some vocabulary you need to know in order to be able to talk about le terroir:
Here is some vocabulary you need to know in order to be able to talk about le terroir:
Homework: Make sure you've copied the information about le terroir and the vocabulary words into your notes. ALSO, write a short paragraph about how terroir is important when thinking about growing the best grapes. If you're having trouble getting started, here's a sample in English:
"The terroir (the soil, the climate, and geography) collaborate to produce the best grapes for the most delicious wines. Gravel, chalky slopes, and hills are part of the (sont une partie de la) geography; granite, sandstone, limestone, clay and chalky soils are a part of the soil, and the sun (le soleil), the rain (la pluie), snow (la neige), and wind (le vent) are a part of the climate. Grapes grow in their (leur) specific terroir (specific = spécifique)."
Quiz: le terroir, le sol, la géographie, le climat, le grès, l'argilo-calcaire, les collines, les pentes, la pluie, pousser (in all tenses for "ils"), les raisins, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Champagne, en Alsace. :) I'll be making small sentences, such as:
1. Terroir = soil, climate, and geography. THESE ARE JUST EXAMPLES! :)
2. Slopes and hills = geography.
3. Limestone/sandstone, clay = soil
4. Rain = climate
5. Pinot Gris grapes grow in Alsace. :)

le 27 février: We didn't have our quiz today as I wanted to get going with our champagne section, which we finished up (woot). Please check your handouts for your vocabulary.
We'll take up the 10 questions on the orange worksheet tomorrow.
I'm cutting down some of the vocabulary from the Powerpoint slides for champagne. Here's all you need to know about:
Homework: Write a paragraph that's just a few lines long, explaining how to make champagne. Try to put it in your own words, more or less. Pretend that you're explaining the process to your parents (but in French).
Quiz: le remuage, le dépôt, la cuvée, le tirage, le dégorgement, le liquor d'expedition. :)

le 26 février: Today we had our quiz:
We then decided to forgo taking up the homework so that we could get right into the Champagne. Here are the answers to the homework questions; make sure you understand how I figured them out and learn from this homework:
1. The aromas of a Riesling are rose, peach pit, mineral, and sometimes melon. Les arômes d'un Riesling sont la rose, le noyau de pêche, le minerale, et le melon, quelquefois.
2. The colour of a Riesling is a subtle mixture of green and yellow. La couleur d'un Riesling est un subtil mélange entre vert et jaune.
3. A Riesling is a well-balanced, charming white wine. Un Riesling est un vin blanc bien équilibré et charmant.
4. Riesling is known for being the finest and most clean wine in Alsace. Le Riesling est connu pour être le vin le plus fin et plus net en Alsace.
5. One enjoys sauerkraut, chicken with wine, fish, and seafood with a Riesling. On déguste le choucroute, le Coq au Vin, le poisson, et des fruits de mer avec un Riesling.
We went through several slides of our Champagne Powerpoint until time ran out.
Homework: Finish up 10 of the 20 questions on your orange worksheet from today.
Quiz: pétillant, sans l'ombre d'un doute, récolter, le sol en craie, la fermentation, le dépôt, :)

le 25 février: We talked extensively about our projects today; it was very fruitful! We figured out the following:
1. We can do one project or two;
2. Both projects combined (or just your one project) need to cover all the tenses we've done so far, relative pronouns, si clauses, and all the wine info (including the general stuff from the beginning of the unit);
3. Any project that has an oral component must be performed on March 8 (overflow March 11, but please don't ask for an extension until then); but projects that are just visual and written can be handed in March 11.
Don't forget you have a test on March 5! woot
We then did our bit on Riesling. You guys are pros at this now!

le 21 février: We had our quiz:
... then we took up the homework on the board. I started talking about "si" clauses, and then we ran out of time.
Homework: Try to think of some sentences in English which have the following format:
"I would go to the movies if you were driving."
"If I could, I would write a book".
You don't need to stick with the conditional, you can try all sorts of other tenses. See what you can do with the present, the imperative, the passé composé, and the future. Use your imagination!

le 20 février: Today we finished up our Pinot Gris notes, then did a playing card activity to learn a bit more about our four wines, and wines in general. Here's what we came up with(I added some sentences from the afternoon 11A-01 class):
Les faits générals du vin :
Riesling
Le champagne
Please copy these down into your notes and make sure you understand what they mean. If you have trouble with a word or two, look them up on Google translate. We can go over them again tomorrow if you are still having trouble.
We then learned how to form the conditional tense (stem of the future, ending of imparfait). You know it's conditional if you use the word "would" in English: je boirai = I would drink; il irait = he would go, nous ferions = he would make (or he would do).
Homework: complete the worksheet I gave you today on putting verbs into the conditional.
Quiz: parler, choisir, boire, aller, faire, in the conditional tense (just for je, tu, il, elle), du vin, au Zimm, une partinaire, une quiche (you need to know this random vocabulary so that we can make sentences with the conditional verbs. Eg: I would speak to Zimm; he would make a quiche, etc). :)

le 19 février: Today we talked about our due dates, due to the fact that Mme GZ might be in Victoria doing Ministry work at the end of the trimester: we have our test on March 5, work days on March 6 and 7, and our projects are due March 8 and 11. There will be NO EXTENSIONS GIVEN as the trimester ends on March 11. IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE AT SCHOOL FOR ONE OF THE DUE DATES, YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR WORK DONE BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Sorry to yell, but it's important.
We then did a little activity whereby we looked through some playing cards that have facts about wines printed on them. Some had general facts (useful for us), facts about Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Champagne (really good for us), and facts about other types of wines (not useful for us). We read through them in groups and choose the ones that will be useful. I started to translate the facts, but we ran out of time.
No homework, no quiz. :)

le 12 février: Today we did our quiz and took up the homework orally, then finished up with our Pinot Blanc notes and went on to begin Pinot Gris.
Homework: Write a short little conversation between two people who are arguing about the relative merits of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Create a situation where person 1 is eating steak or roast beef, and wants to drink a Pinot Blanc with it. What are the aromas of Pinot Blanc? What are its characteristics? What food does it go with? Will it go well with red meat?
Quiz: Les arômes d'un Pinot Blanc sont la pêche, la poire, et la fleur/ on déguste le Pinot Blanc avec le poisson, la tarte à l'oignon, et la volaille / le Pinot Blanc est un vin blanc sec rafraichissant.

le 11 février: Today we took up the homework:
We then continued on with our wine powerpoint.
Homework: Repondez aux questions:
1. Quel sont les trois vins d'Alsace?
2. Décrivez un Pinot Blanc.
3. Quel pourcentage de vignoble en Alsace produit le Pinot Blanc?
Quiz: une situation, le sol, le superficie, les cépages, déguster avec, le grès, l'argilo-calcaire

le 8 fév: Today we began working on relative pronouns. Here are the board notes:
I'd like you to spend 5 minutes and do a bit of homework on this so that you feel more comfortable with this on Monday than you do today:
Translate the following sentences into French, then join the pair into a big sentence with a relative clause. You'll write two separate entries for each question:
1. France is big. France has a region of 3,000 acres for wine production.
2. France produces 10 billion bottles of wine each year. France exports around 400 million bottles each year.
3. France makes a lot of wine. France produces a quarter of the world's total wine production.

le 7 février: Today we went to the Risk Assessment presentations in the MPR. We'll resume our wine unit tomorrow. :)
le 6 février: We didn't take up the homework, but we did do the quiz. We then did an activity in class to see how we were coming along with the information about the three classifications of wine.
Homework: make sure that you have finished up the four questions from yesterday.

le 5 février: Today we went right into a small review of the work we did yesterday, then continued on with our PowerPoint about general wine info. We got as far as looking at the wine bottle labels on our slides to determine how much a particular bottle of wine might cost ( $5, $10, or $15) based on it's government designation. I gave you our next worksheet entitled "Pinot Blanc", but we haven't gotten to it yet.
Homework: Translate the following:
1. Bob will buy a bottle of table wine.
2. Claire was buying a bottle of Vin de Pays.
3. Fred wants to buy a bottle of AOC.
4. France is the source of many varieties of grapes.
Quiz: l'appellation d'origine contrôllée, vin de pays, vin de France, les trois catégories de vin en France. :)

le 4 février: Today we worked for about 15 minutes, learning about how France produces a quarter of the world's wine, how they have 3 million acres reserved for grape plants, and how they produce 10 billion bottles of wine per year, export 400 million, and thus hang onto 9,600,000,000 bottles of wine for local consumption. We then had our pizza party! No homework, no quiz. :)
le 1 février: We started our "Le Vin" unit, but had so much trouble with the Smartboard that we gave it up. No homework, no quiz.
le 31 janvier: We talked about marks today, and I arranged for you to rewrite 5 questions of your last test to boost your grades. Good job! Tomorrow you need to tell me what you want as your treat for me forgetting l'argot 3 times.
No homework, no quiz. :)
No homework, no quiz. :)
le 29 janvier: Today was a "work on project day", and I also gave you a list of vocabulary and verbs for your test:
Here's a sample test for you to practice on. I haven't put any matchums on this practice test, but there will be matchums on the test tomorrow:
Les exercises pour préparer pour le test le 30 jan
Mettez au futur:
Traduisez en français:

- Fred didn’t want to try rehab.
- Bob will leave the drug treatment program. :)
le 28 janvier: Today we listen to your presentations (excellent!), then we were about to work on Partie C of "L'histoire triste", but since time is ticking away, we decided that tomorrow we'll work on our projects and study for our test. Remember that our projects are due Wednesday, and our test is on Wednesday, as well. No homework, no quiz. :)
le 24 janvier: We had a great block working on our questions and our Part Bs of our stories. Remember that you have to perform then on Monday. We learned how to say:
meanwhile - pendant ce temps
Use it if you need it! No homework (unless you're a bit behind), no quiz. :)

Use it if you need it! No homework (unless you're a bit behind), no quiz. :)
le 23 janvier: We continued working on our future tense questions, and some of you got them completed and received 100%. I highly recommend that those who didn't get them done finish them up for tomorrow, and make sure that you do any needed corrections after you've shown them to me (and I've handed them back). I'd love to see all of you working on your Part B of the story and your transformation of it into a short play tomorrow. Otherwise, you'll have to work too hard on the weekend.
No homework, no quiz. :)
No homework, no quiz. :)
le 22 janvier: Today we took up the quiz:
...and then we continued working on our projects. Several of you have already handed in their questions sheet for preliminary marking; good job!
We decided that we need to have our questions done by tomorrow in order to stay on schedule. :)
- You (s) will see. Tu verras
- He will have. Il aura
- She will be. Elle sera
- We will do. Nous ferons
- You (pl) will be. Vous serez
- They (m) will see. Ils verront
- They (f) will make. Elles feront
- I will have. J’aurai

We decided that we need to have our questions done by tomorrow in order to stay on schedule. :)
le 21 janvier: After l'argot, we went over our irregular future tense verbs:
We talked about the rest of the week: I gave you a booklet of future tense verb conjugations to practice, which is optional. I highly recommend, of course, that you take a look at it and practice, but if you feel that, for example, you know your regular "er" verbs in the future tense pretty well, you might spend less time on that page. I'm not marking this booklet, but I will give you the answers.
I also gave you a sheet with some sample questions on it to translate into French, all in the future tense. I will be marking this, as part of your project mark. When you've finished the questions, bring it to me, I'll mark it right then and there, and you can make your corrections and hand it in again as many times as you need. My goal is that all of you receive 100% on that page.
After you finish up the questions and have them marked, you'll choose two partners who have come up with a Part B of the story that is similar to yours. For example, if you chose that Claire tries the cocaine, then try to find others who made the same decision. Then the three of you need to sit down together and write another section of the story (not right to the ending). Make sure that everyone writes down the story themselves, not one copy for the three of you.
You'll present this to the class (not memorized, you can bring up your notes) on Monday January 28 during class. It'll be part of your project mark.
We also talked about your project(s). Please think about what you're going to do, and sign up for a date to present (if you're presenting) on the sheet on the side board (beneath the Ts'msyen seasonal round).
Homework: no homework.

le 17 janvier: We spent a good part of the class going over strategies for memorizing things in French, then took up the 7 questions from the sheet. We didn't get to my lesson! lol No homework, no quiz. :)
le 16 janvier: Today we did our l'argot, then we read the sad story of Bob and Claire. I gave you the vocab for our drug section, and we worked on our questions at the bottom of the story sheet.
Homework: Make sure you can tell me how many projects you want to do before January 30, and the dates you want to perform/hand them in on. Remember that for your project(s) you have to use two of the following three: visual, oral, and written.
As well, please finish up your vocab sheet, including question 7 in which you tell us all about Claire's decision! :)

As well, please finish up your vocab sheet, including question 7 in which you tell us all about Claire's decision! :)
le 15 janvier: We marked our tests today, then I gave you a story about Bob and Claire, completely in French. We left off where Bob offered Claire a bit of cocaine. We'll continue on tomorrow. No homework, no quiz. :)
le 14 janvier: Test day! woot
le 11 janvier: Today we decided to do straight up studying rather than games, which is completely ok. A couple of points:
Here is a picture of the adjective categorizations we did:
- I'm not putting anything on the test that isn't on the study sheet (the one with the photo in it);
- if you want to include body adjectives (good-looking, ugly, short, tall, eye and hair stuff) in your description of your dream/nightmare partner, you can. I'll put those instructions on your test.
Here is a picture of the adjective categorizations we did:
Faites un bon weekend et bon chance avec les études! :)

le 8 janvier: Today we took up the 9 questions on page 2 of the orange booklet:
We discovered that we need a fairly substantial review of passé composé with avoir, so we won't have any of that on the test on Friday. There will be passé composé of reflexive verbs, but that's it for passé composé (look at the webpage notes for Dec 12 if you need a bit of review).
We then began our review of direct and indirect pronouns (from Grade 10):

I hope you had a great holiday. Today we went over what's going to be on our test on Friday, and I gave you our orange booklet and the following extra vocabulary:
PLEASE NOTE THAT I FORGOT TO GIVE YOU THE FIRST TWO ADJECTIVES. PLEASE WRITE THEM IN YOUR NOTES. :)
Homework: Please do as many questions on page 2 as you can, stopping at #9.
Hints: What tense is questions 7 and 8 in? If you said passé composé, you're right! You'll need the past participles of avoir and être to do those questions:
avoir - eu
être - été
Both avoir and être take avoir in the passé composé, as you know (neither is on Mt. Étre). :)

le 19 déc: Today we took up the rest of the cat conversation:
Mec, tu es à côté de la plaque. Je suis raide dingue d’elle. Nous nous vraiment éclatons.
D’accord, d’accord (ok, ok), ne chiale pas! Je ne vais pas la peloter. (je ne la pelote pas). Je vais la draguer, peut-être…
J’en ai marre de toi. Ne te fais pas de films.
Wow mec, ne fais pas de scène. Notre amitié, c’est hyper bien! Tape le main!
We then made a list of verbs that we think we'll need to put into passé composé for this unit. I don't think it's a comprehensive list; we may think of other verbs along the way, which we'll discuss as they come up. Here's the list:

Here's info on the first set of verbs (circled in black):
-utilisez le présent d’avoir (j’ai, tu as, il a…) et formez le participe passé du verbe par enlevant le “er” et ajoutant “é”
Here's information about the second set of verbs (the ones with a jaggedy blue circle around them):
We ran out of time before we could finish the list.
Quiz tomorrow: the following vocab from the orange coloured sheet:
à côté de la plaque, accro, embrasse-moi, draguer, craquant(e). Make sure you can use them in sentences, such as:
-You're way off the mark!
-I'm hooked on her.
-Kiss me!
-He's hitting on Claire.
-She's gorgeous!
These are suggestions, not the actual quiz. :)
- Les verbes draguer, peloter, chialer, regarder, parler, manger, travailler, marcher, donner, brosser, rencontrer, demander, et sauter:
-utilisez le présent d’avoir (j’ai, tu as, il a…) et formez le participe passé du verbe par enlevant le “er” et ajoutant “é”
Here's information about the second set of verbs (the ones with a jaggedy blue circle around them):
- Les verbes faire, boire, dire, promettre, voir, prendre, mettre, savoir, connaître sont les verbes irréguliers qui prennent avoir au passé composé.
- faire – fait (j’ai fait: I did, I made)
- boire – bu (tu as bu – you drank)
- dire – dit (il a dit – he said)
- promettre – promis (elle a promis)
- voir – vu (nous avons vu)
- prendre – pris (vous avez pris)
- mettre – mis (ils ont mis)
- savoir – su (j’ai su (que…) – I found out (that)…)
- connaître – connu (tu as connu – you met (for the first time)).
We ran out of time before we could finish the list.

le 18 déc: We translated the first three speech balloons of the cat conversation:
Homework: Please finish up the cat conversation for tomorrow. :)
le 17 déc: Today we did our Secret Santa draw, then I gave you a large chart with lots of yummy vocab on it and several tenses. You sure gave your French brain a workout with those tenses! :) I also gave you a sheet of questions to translate; here are the translations:
I then gave you a conversation between too kool kats about love and sex and asked you to translate it. Please get the five questions and the first three speech balloons of the cat conversation for tomorrow. :)
- Est-ce que je draguais Claire? Tu es à côté de la plaque.
- Je vais lui demander: “Embrasse-moi!” Et je ne vas pas chialer.
- “Ta compagne est craquante!” “Comment? Tu es culotté!”
- Je voulais coucher avec Bob, mais je me contente d’un câlin.
- Je suis accro à ta blonde (ta petite amie). C’est du sérieux!

le 14 déc: Today we discussed where we might go on a date, or just for a fun time with a friend:
i also added my "fun" places:
aller...
-au théâtre;
-aux édifices de parlement
-au Centre des sciences
-à la galerie d'art
-au musée
-au carnaval d'hiver
For your quiz on Monday, be able to translate the following: "I found out that Bob and Claire are going to the movies, but Bob and Marie are going to his house. :)

le 13 déc: We had our quiz:
We then discussed how to put some verbs in the passé composé that you think wouldn't go into that tense because they wouldn't pass the pen test:
- Je me suis réveillé à six heures.
- Il s’est rasé dans la salle de bains. (se raser)
- Nous ne nous sommes pas regardés dans le miroir. (se regarder)
- Vous vous êtes préparés (se préparer)
- Ils se sont occupés avec le chat (s’occuper)
We then discussed how to put some verbs in the passé composé that you think wouldn't go into that tense because they wouldn't pass the pen test:
We'll do être tomorrow. No homework. :)
le 12 déc: Today we had kids come to the front of the class to take up the homework orally. I promised I would put it on the webpage, so here it is:
I also gave you the conjugations of "sourire" (to smile), which of course can also be used in the pronominal (to smile at oneself, to smile at each other):
je souris nous sourions
tu souris vous souriez
il sourit ils sourient
elle sourit elles sourient
We went on to review how to put pronominal verbs into the passé composé:

Homework: please change the tenses in paragraph 1 of your handout into passé composé.
Quiz: I'll write out some sentences with the verbs missing (but supplied at the end of the sentence in their infinitive form) and you write them in the blanks using the proper conjugation in the passé composé. Some may be in the negative! :)

le 11 déc: We started off with a rousing game of Zig Zag Zog, because tired. Félicitations Gavin, tu était le gagnant! We then finished up the mix-match chart of vocab, did a little overview of what's going to be happening with the unit, then conjugated voir and boire on the board:
boire - to drink
je bois nous buvons
tu bois vous buvez
il boit ils boivent
elle boit elles boivent
voir - to see
je vois nous voyons
tu vois vous voyez
il voit ils voient
elle voit elles voient
I then gave you the rest of the class (it was really only a couple of minutes) to work on the two-paragraph translation exercise I gave you yesterday. Please try to get it done for tomorrow as homework. :)

le 10 déc: We had our tiny quiz today, which I'll mark for tomorrow. We then did a short review of pronominal verbs (both reflexive, which is an action someone does that comes right back on them, like getting up, washing oneself, etc) and reciprocal (when two people are doing an action with each other, such as talking with each other, fighting with each other, trusting each other, etc). Both types of pronominal verbs are formed in exactly the same way; singular conjugations can only be reflexive, but plural conjugations, because they involve more than one person, can only be either reflexive or reciprocal.
I gave you a mix-and-match sheet to learn some reciprocal verbs and some gossipy expressions. We started taking it up, but didn't get very far. I also gave you a translation sheet so that you could see how the expressions are used.
Homework: Try to finish up the mix-and-match sheet, and take a crack at the paragraph translation. You shouldn't have any trouble at all with paragraph 1; paragraph 2 is newer material. :)

le 7 déc: Today we had a small class, but that didn't stop us from planning out our Christmas party! We decided to have chips, cookies, pop, chow mein, crêpes, and a Baker Boy cake. Everyone will have to bring something in, if you don't mind. The following are already taken:
-miss Vicky's plain chips, sour cream and onion chips, dorito, ketchup chips
-chicken chow mein
A&W root beer, iced tea, sparkling juice
-macarons, rolo cookies.
We always need more chips, sweet stuff, and pop.
We're going to play games, have a Secret Santa, and Jacob might bring in his PS4. I'll bring in board games, and we always have Jenga.
We then took up the worksheet; I put everything in the present tense at first, then made some changes for the imparfait:
Le matin…
Je me réveillais, et maintenant je me lève; je me regardais dans le miroir, et maintenant je me lave. Je me brosse les dents, mais je me brossais les cheveux; je ne me douchais pas, et maintenant je ne me baigne pas, et je ne me rase pas. Je m’habillais, et maintenant je m’occupe de mon chat. Je me prépare.
se parler
se regarder
se bavarder
I then gave out a sheet of expressions with a list of translations for you to mix and match. We didn't have time to do more than one, so we'll take a look at it on Monday.
I explained a bit more about pronominal verbs:
Pronominal Verbs (les verbes pronominaux): any verb that has a little pronoun in front of it that changes its meaning a bit. The pronoun will be me, te, se nous or vous.
There are two sub-categories of pronominal verbs, only one of which we've learned so far:
a) Reflexive Verbs (les verbes réflechis): Verbs which have the action of the verb come back on the subject, such as "I'm dressing myself" or "I'm getting myself up". (s'habiller, se lever);
b) Reciprocal verbs: Verbs where there are more than one subject, and they do and receive the action together. Eg: "we like each other" "we fight with each other" "we trust each other", "they don't like each other", etc. THESE VERBS WILL ALWAYS BE USED IN THE PLURAL.
So! If I type "je m'aime", it means "I love myself". But if I type "nous nous aimons", it could either mean "we love ourselves" or "we love each other". Context will usually tell you what's going on.
There will be a quiz on Monday, on the following: I'll ask you to write a tiny story about what you do in the morning. I expect to see four reflexive verbs in the present tense, four in l'imparfait, and two in the negative (so eight verbs all together). Here's a sample in English:
I used to wake up at 6:00am, but now I get up at 7:00. I don't shave. I shower, but I used to wash. I don't take a bath. I used to look at myself in the mirror, and I used to take care of the cat.
You can use whatever 8 verbs you like, but remember that you'll have to get comfortable with less familiar ones such as s'occuper, s'habiller, and se préparer eventually, so maybe practice one of them for the quiz on Monday. :)

le 5 déc: We had 10 minutes to finish up the homework, then we practiced it together. After that, I continued my imparfait review, and we did this exercise:
I then gave you a whole huge pile of work to do; we started it in class but we didn't finish. Please do as much as you can for homework; if you're in the play, you're off the hook. If you're not in the play, just do as much as you can so that you understand how to form these sentences:
Person #1: Were you verbing? (eg: were you brushing your teeth?)
Person #1: No, I wasn't verbing, I was doing something else (eg: no, I wasn't brushing my teeth, I was showering).
Repeat the above little conversation 6 more times, but change the subject pronoun like this:
Person #1: Was he verbing?
Person #2: No, he wasn't verbing, he was doing something else.
Person #1: Was she verbing?
Person #2: No, she wasn't verbing, she was doing something else.
Person #1: Were we verbing?
Person #2: No, we weren't verbing, we were doing something else.

Person #2: No, we weren't verbing, we were doing something else.
Person #1: Were they verbing?

- I wasn’t bathing!
- You (s) weren’t taking a stroll!
- He wasn’t getting ready!
- She wasn’t taking care of work!
- We weren’t getting dressed!
- You (pl) weren’t used to it!
- They (m) weren’t brushing their teeth!

le 4 déc: Today we took up the homework, then learned the following pronominal verbs:
We read an interview with the super famous Jules the writer (eye roll) where we saw these verbs in action. We then did a brief overview of l'imparfait, then the bell rang. No homework. :)
le 3 déc: Bienvenue à la classe! Today we began our new unit, "L'amitié (friendship), and I went over all the elements of the unit:
We'll take about a month or six weeks for this unit. We'll decide as we go if we want two chapter tests or just one, and two projects or just one. Remember there's going to be a quiz every Monday and Thursday.
We then started our morning routine:
We then started our morning routine:
The point of the morning routine bit is so that we can review pronominal (reflexive) verbs in the present and imparfait, as well as learn them in the passé composé and our new tense, le futur.
Homework: Write a short blurb about what you do each morning. It'll start like this:
Le matin, je me réveille, je me lève... etc. :)
